Sense Presence: Install a Sense Gateway (Installation Team)

Enable presence mapping and location verification by installing and powering a Sense Gateway.

Updated this week

Who it’s for: Installation team, Facilities managers

Platform: Sense Presence

Available on: Elite and Enterprise plans

Before you begin:

☑️ A mains power socket is available within 900 mm of the mounting location

☑️ The wall surface is flat, clean, and free from obstacles

☑️ Adequate space is available to mount the gateway securely

☑️ All supplied equipment is undamaged and safe to use

⚠️ Caution: Do not proceed if wall sockets are cracked, loose, or show signs of damage.

💡 Tip: If installing the gateway higher up a wall, you may need an extension lead during installation.

Overview

The Sense Gateway enables presence mapping and location verification by connecting nearby Sense Presence devices to the Sense platform.

When Gateways are installed, Sense can show where people are on a map and verify presence in specific areas. Without Gateways, Sense can still record task completion, but does not provide live presence or location mapping.

You can repeat this process to install multiple gateways across a site.

Installation pack contents

Each installation pack includes:

• Sense Gateway

• 12 V wall mains power plug

• Pre-applied 3M adhesive mounting strips

Install the Sense gateway

Step 1: Choose the installation location

Identify a suitable wall location within 900 mm of a mains socket.

Remove the gateway from its packaging. Connect the power plug to the gateway, then plug it into the wall socket.

🖊️ Note: The power cable is 900 mm long. Ensure the socket is within reach before mounting.

Step 2: Mount the gateway

Peel away the protective layer from the 3M adhesive strips on the back of the gateway.

Step 3: Power on and check status lights

Switch on the gateway at the mains.

The gateway will power up and display a sequence of LED status lights:

  • Yellow/green: Gateway is booting up

  • Red: Gateway is not connected to the network

  • Blue: Gateway is connecting to the network and Sense platform

  • Green: Nearby Sense devices detected

  • White: Firmware update in progress (only during updates)

Once connected, the LEDs flash green to indicate normal activity.

After installation

The gateway automatically:

  • Detects compatible Sense Presence devices using local wireless connections

  • Transmits collected data securely to the Sense platform

  • Updates its firmware when required

No manual configuration is required.

🖊️ Note: If installing multiple gateways, repeat the steps above for each device.
