Who it’s for: Users with access to Sense Presence
Platform: Sense HR / Sense Presence
Available on: Organisations using Sense Presence
Before you begin
Make sure you:
☑️ Have access to Sense Presence in Sense Portal
☑️ Have access to the person’s profile in Sense HR
⚠️ Important note: Access to Sense Presence
Only give users access to Sense Presence if they are authorised to have full access to Presence.
The See live location icon is only shown on Sense HR profiles the user is permitted to access. However, selecting it opens Sense Presence, where Sense HR Access Role and People access restrictions do not apply.
Once in Presence, the user can navigate to other information available in the product, including information relating to people they may not be permitted to access in Sense HR.
Overview
Where your organisation uses Sense Presence, you can open a person’s latest known device location directly from their Sense HR profile.
Sense Presence tracks the location of devices associated with the person, rather than the person directly.
When you select See live location, Sense Presence opens Site Monitoring and automatically focuses on the assigned device with the most recent location information.
If the person has multiple assigned devices, Presence compares the latest reported location from each device and automatically zooms to and highlights the device with the most recent location. Other assigned devices with location information are also shown on the map.

View a person’s live location
In Sense HR, go to People and open the person’s profile.
Click the See live location icon in the upper-right corner.
Sense Presence opens the Site Monitoring area and automatically zooms to the person's assigned device with the most recently reported location.
The selected device is highlighted on the map and its details are displayed.

Understand the location shown
The map shows the latest known location of the device, which is not necessarily the person’s current location.
The location can currently be determined using:
GPS
Uses GPS coordinates reported by the device.
BLE
Shows the approximate area where a stationary Sense Gateway detected the device. On the outdoor map, the marker is positioned at the centre of the configured location associated with that Gateway.
A device may report GPS, BLE, both, or neither. Where more than one location has been received, Presence uses the most recently reported location, regardless of whether it came from GPS or BLE.
🖊️ Note: The location may not be current
Site Monitoring displays the device’s last known location. This can remain on the map even when no new location information is being received and could potentially be significantly out of date.
Check the device information before interpreting the marker as the person’s current location.
Understand the device information
When a device is selected, its information card provides details about the device and its location.
Status indicates how recently the device has communicated with Sense and can show the following values:
Active
The device has sent a message within the last 15 minutes.
Idle
The device has not sent a message within the last 15 minutes, but has communicated within the last hour.
Inactive
The last message from the device was more than one hour ago.
🖊️ Note: A device showing as Active does not necessarily mean its displayed location is current. Status shows how recently the device communicated with Sense; check Last Seen to see when its displayed location was last received.
Device ID is the unique identifier for the device.
Device Type identifies the type of device associated with the person and can show the following values:
Badge
Tag
Mobile
Wearer identifies the person associated with the device.
Location Source identifies how the displayed location was obtained. Currently GPS or BLE.
Last Seen shows when the displayed location information was last received.
When no location is available
If the person has assigned devices but none have ever provided location information, Site Monitoring still opens but does not automatically zoom to or highlight a device.
