Overview

Security settings in Sense Portal help administrators manage account protection and session behaviour.

From this area, you can:

  • enable or disable multi-factor authentication

  • set the session duration for signed-in users

Navigation path

Sense Portal > Settings > Security

Turn multi-factor authentication on or off

Multi-factor authentication adds an extra security step when users sign in.

To turn MFA on or off:

  1. Open Sense Portal via the product switcher.

  2. Select Settings from the left-hand menu.

  3. Select Security.

  4. Use the Enable MFA toggle to turn multi-factor authentication ON or OFF.

  5. Select Save changes.

✅ Your MFA setting is updated.

What happens when MFA is enabled

When multi-factor authentication is enabled in Sense Portal, it is enforced the next time affected users log in.

Users who are already signed in may need to log out and back in before the change applies.

🖊️ Note: MFA and SSO

If your organisation uses single sign-on, MFA is enforced by your identity provider, such as Microsoft or Google.

Turning on MFA in Sense Portal does not affect users who sign in through SSO.

SSO workflows are installed and deployed through Sense Automate.

Set session duration

Session duration controls how long users can stay signed in before they are automatically logged out.

To set session duration:

  1. Go to Sense Portal > Settings > Security.

  2. In Session duration, enter a number.

  3. Select either hours or days from the dropdown.

  4. Select Save changes.

✅ The session duration is updated.

Choosing a session duration

A shorter session duration can improve security because users need to sign in again more often.

A longer session duration may reduce sign-in interruptions for users.

Choose a duration that matches your organisation’s security policy.

Troubleshooting

Users are being asked to sign in more often than expected

Check the session duration set in Sense Portal > Settings > Security.

If the duration is short, users will be automatically logged out more frequently.

MFA is not behaving as expected

Check that MFA is enabled in Sense Portal > Settings > Security.

If you have recently changed the setting, ask users to log out and back in.

If the issue continues, contact Sense Support.

MFA is not being enforced for a user

Check whether the user signs in directly to Sense Workplace or through SSO.

If the user signs in directly, MFA is enforced the next time they log in after MFA has been enabled.

If the user signs in through SSO, MFA is controlled by your identity provider, such as Microsoft or Google. Turning on MFA in Sense Portal does not affect SSO users.

Summary

Security settings are managed in Sense Portal > Settings > Security.

Use this area to manage multi-factor authentication and set how long users can stay signed in before being logged out.
