Released: 14th August 2026
Product: Sense Mobile / Sense Automate / Sense HR
Who it affects: Administrators managing mobile Clock In/Out
Available on: Elite and Enterprise plans
Overview
The Clock In/Out mobile app now includes more flexible configuration for assigning QR and Manual clocking to different groups of employees.
Administrators can combine Location, Department and Job Title in the same rule, use simpler configuration values, and rely on a Global Clock Mode for anyone who does not match a specific rule.
What’s new
Combine different employee attributes in one rule
Specific clocking rules can now use any combination of:
Location
Department
Job Title
You can include multiple values in the same configuration. Anyone matching any of the values entered is included in that rule.
For example, you could configure QR clocking for employees in a particular department alongside employees at selected locations or with particular job titles.
What this means for you:
You can configure QR and Manual clocking for different parts of your workforce without being limited to a single type of employee attribute.
Global Clock Mode provides the fallback
The Global Clock Mode now acts as the fallback for anyone who does not match a specific QR or Manual rule.
For example, if most employees should clock in manually but Finance should use QR:
Set Global Clock Mode to Manual.
Add Department: Finance to the QR Users rule.
There is no need to separately list every other department as a Manual user.
Clock In/Out workflow configuration
What this means for you:
Exceptions are much easier to configure. Set the normal organisation-wide behaviour once, then add specific rules only for the people who should work differently.
Simpler rule format
The format used to define specific groups has also been simplified.
Rules no longer require square brackets or quotation marks.
For example:
JobTitle: Warehouse, Sales
This can be combined with Location and Department values where required.
What this means for you:
Clocking rules are quicker to configure and easier to read or update later.
HR exclusions continue to take priority
Existing Mobile Clock In exclusions configured in Sense HR continue to apply.
If an employee is excluded from Mobile Clock In through their HR settings, they will not see the Clock In/Out mobile app, regardless of the Global Clock Mode or any specific QR or Manual rules they match.
What this means for you:
Existing HR controls remain in place, so these new configuration options cannot accidentally give mobile clocking access to someone who has been excluded.
Summary
The Clock In/Out mobile app now provides more flexible rules for assigning QR and Manual clocking.
Administrators can combine Location, Department and Job Title values, use the Global Clock Mode as a fallback, and configure exceptions using a simpler rule format. Existing Mobile Clock In exclusions in Sense HR continue to take priority.
