☑️ To clock yourself in or out from the Dashboard, make sure you have access to the Dashboard Clock-In widget.
☑️ To add or edit Attendance through Calendar or Planner, make sure your Access Role has the required Add attendance or Edit attendance permission.
🖊️ Note: Dashboard Clock-In access is separate from Access Role Attendance permissions. You can use the Dashboard widget to clock yourself in or out even if Add attendance and Edit attendance are OFF for your Access Role.
About Attendance
Attendance records when someone clocks in and out of work.
Sense HR provides Attendance as a system Event. Unlike Working and Time-off Events, Attendance can’t currently be configured through Event Manager.
Depending on your access, you can record Attendance:
directly from the Dashboard Clock-In widget on the Dashboard; or
by adding Attendance through Calendar or Planner.
Users with the required Access Role permissions can also add or edit Attendance records.
🖊️ Note: Access to add and edit Attendance is controlled through Access Roles. Access to the Dashboard Clock-In widget is configured separately under Settings > Time & Attendance > Dashboard Clock-In.
Clock in and out from the Dashboard
Where the Dashboard Clock-In widget is available, use it to record your clockings directly from the Dashboard.
The widget shows your current Attendance status and provides In and Out buttons.
Click In when you start work.
Click Out when you finish.
Use the Dashboard Clock-In widget to clock in or out directly from the Dashboard.
View today’s clockings
Click View history on the Dashboard Clock-In widget to see the clockings already recorded for the day.
Further clockings appear in the history as they’re added.
Avoid duplicate clockings
Attendance clockings should alternate between In and Out.
If you’re already clocked in and click In again, Sense HR warns you that you’re already clocked in.
Click Cancel if you selected In accidentally.
If two consecutive clockings of the same type are recorded, the Attendance record is flagged with an error.
For example:
2 consecutive entries cannot be same.
Edit the Attendance record to correct the clockings, or contact you administrator or manager to correct the duplicates.
Add an Attendance record in Calendar or Planner
You can also record Attendance using the same Book event route used for other Events.
Go to Calendar or Planner and click Book.
Select:
Event: Attendance
Assign to: the person whose Attendance you want to record
Date: the date of the Attendance
Then add the required clockings.
For each clocking:
Select In or Out.
Enter the Time.
Select Next day where the clocking falls on the following day.
For example, a Clock Out for an overnight shift.Click + Add another to add another clocking where required.
You can also add Notes.
When the Attendance record is complete, click Add.
📖 Example: To record that Alice worked from 09:00 until 15:00, add:
In — 09:00
Out — 15:00
Add the employee’s In and Out clockings to record Attendance manually.
Record an overnight clocking
Select Next day where a clocking belongs to the day after the last Attendance record’s selected date.
View Attendance in Calendar or Planner
Attendance appears as an Event in Calendar and Planner.
Click an Attendance Event to see its recorded details, including the employee and their In and Out clockings.
Where a complete In and Out pair has been recorded, the Event also shows the duration.
Edit an Attendance record
If you have permission to edit Attendance, open the Attendance Event and click the edit
icon.
The Edit attendance window shows the clockings currently recorded for the employee.
You can:
change whether a clocking is In or Out;
change its time;
select or clear Next day;
remove an individual clocking;
click + Add another to add a missing clocking; and
update Notes.
Click Save when you’ve finished.
Edit an Attendance record to correct, add or remove individual clockings.
💡 Tip: If an Attendance record shows a warning about consecutive entries, check that the clockings alternate correctly between In and Out.
Control who can add or edit Attendance
Attendance doesn’t use Event Manager Access control. Access to add and edit Attendance is controlled through Access Roles.
Go to:
Settings > Access roles > [select role] > Permissions > Features > Planner actions
Configure:
Add attendance — allows users with the role to add Attendance records.
Edit attendance — allows users with the role to edit existing Attendance records.
🖊️ Note: There isn’t a separate Delete attendance permission in Access Roles.
For more information about Access Roles, see:
Control access to Dashboard Clock-In
Administrators can control who has access to the Dashboard Clock-In widget.

Settings > Time & Attendance > Dashboard Clock-In
Turn Enable Dashboard Clock-In ON to make the widget available to eligible users.
Under Assign to, select the people or Smart filters that should have access.
Use Exclude people to remove people who would otherwise be included.
Click View filtered results to check who currently has access.
Enable the Dashboard Clock-In widget and choose which users should have access.
🖊️ Note: Access to the Dashboard Clock-In widget and permission to add or edit Attendance records are controlled separately.
